Ex-SLAYER Drummer DAVE LOMBARDO Working On 'Insidious: Chapter 3' Score
November 12, 2014Former SLAYER and current PHILM drummer Dave Lombardo is collaborating with American composer and actor Joseph Bishara on the score the upcoming horror prequel "Insidious: Chapter 3". The third installment in the "Insidious" franchise was written and directed by Leigh Whannell in his directorial debut and is scheduled to be released on June 5, 2015 by Focus Features.
Bishara scored the previous two movies for the franchise and also collaborated with James Wan ("The Conjuring", "Furious 7") — who directed the first two installments is co-producing the project — on "The Conjuring" and this year's "Annabelle".
Speaking to Metal Thunder Radio earlier this week, Lombardo said (hear audio below): "This Wednesday I'm collaborating with Joseph Bishara, [who] is the music composer for the horror movies 'The Conjuring', 'Annabelle' [and] 'Insidious'. So I'm working on 'Insidious 3' this Wednesday with Joseph, and we're creating some drums for the new movie."
He added: "I'm really excited to do this. I set up all the drums… today I ordered the drums that I'm gonna use. I'm gonna be performing with two cello players, a viola and a violin player under [Joseph's] direction. And he's an amazing composer; I've been listening to his stuff for awhile now."
Lombardo also talked about his collaboration with art team SceneFour on an art collection built from the new medium of rhythm-on-canvas. He said: "This company SceneFour put together this art project. It includes also other drummers… Dave Weckl, Bill Ward [BLACK SABBATH] is part of it, Chris [Fehn] from SLIPKNOT; he's a part of it… And what they do is they snap these shots of drummers using these special drum sticks that have lights on them, and you kind of document these moves with the light and the help of these special cameras and time lapse. And they print these pictures and they become these beautiful art pieces. So I have a series of twelve of these pieces that are gonna be released on November 21. And I'm really excited, 'cause it's just a new way of creating art. But, of course, it's done digitally, with photographs instead of brushing. But you kind of see what drummers are doing. It kind of snaps a shot of what they're creating at that time. With a particular drum beat, you can see what he's doing by these photographs. It's a series of stills."
Lombardo was effectively fired from SLAYER after sitting out the band's Australian tour in February/March 2013 due to a contract dispute with the other members of the group. He has since been replaced by Paul Bostaph, who was previously SLAYER's drummer from 1992 until 2001 and recorded four albums with the band.
PHILM released its sophomore album, "Fire From The Evening Sun", on September 16 (one day earlier internationally) via UDR. The band's lineup is completed by guitarist/vocalist Gerry Paul Nestler (CIVIL DEFIANCE),and bassist Francisco "Pancho" Eduardo Tomaselli (WAR).
